Sequoia National Forest

Osborne Ranch Interface Project

printerPrintable Version

The Giant Sequoia National Monument Management Plan identified areas called "threat areas" around private land with residences as a first priority for actions to reduce the risk of large wildland fires. The Osborne Ranch Interface Project area, located on the Tule River Ranger District is identified as one of these threat areas. The vegetation in the project area has been determined by forest officials to be inconsistent with what should be there under normal conditions, and has a high potential to be damaged by a large wildland fire. Current conditions are such that if a fire were to occur it is likely to be too dangerous for firefighters to suppress, and would likely threaten life and property in the area. The proposal is to reduce vegetation less than six inches in diameter by various means to a level that is less likely to result in a large wildfire.
