Sequoia National Forest

Coy Flat Land Exchange

printerPrintable Version

Following informal discussions spanning several years, Coy Flat recreation residence permit holders via the Slate Mountain Summer Homes Association (Association), a nonprofit mutual benefit corporation formed under the laws of the State of California, formally requested that the Sequoia National Forest consider a land exchange on January 7, 2002. All 41 permit holders were in agreement with the exchange. This met the criteria of overwhelming majority required by the Forest Service to accept a land exchange proposal from a recreation residence tract. Additionally the potential to acquire third party lands through the exchange process from willing sellers, made the possibility of a public benefit from such an exchange worth pursuing further. The Association agreed to bear all costs associated with processing a land exchange, and they entered into a formal Agreement-to-Initiate for an assembled value for value land.
